Let's get this blog rolling with your family's favorite recipes!

Pizza!  Here's the recipe I use for one of our family favorites.

No Rise Pizza Dough
1 pkg dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
1 c hot water (not boiling or it will kill your yeast)
1 tsp sugar
2 Tbsp oil (I use olive)
1/2 tsp salt (I use sea salt)
2 1/2 c flour (I use non-GMO, usually Wheat MT white.  It also works well with whole wheat, but it will be a heavy dough. I plan to try a gluten free version at some point, but haven't gotten around to it.  Anyone else do that yet?)

Preheat oven to 425
Dissolve the yeast in the water. (I usually let it sit for 5-10 minutes to proof.)
Add sugar, salt, and oil to the water.
Dump flour in all at once.
Mix with a fork until the dough forms a ball.
Pat onto greased pizza pan/stone.  (This should make 2-3 pizzas depending on how thick you like your crust and how big your pans are.)
Add toppings of your choice.
Sprinkle top with oregano and basil.
Bake 15 minutes or until the crust is done and cheese is melted.

This dough makes awesome bread sticks too.  I prepare them the same way, after spreading it on the pan, I poke holes with a fork all over it.  Then brush it with oil.  Sprinkle with garlic salt, seasonings, and Parmesan cheese if you'd like.

Sauce:
I don't have measurements for this and my sauce can vary depending on how much time and which ingredients I have.  It's best if you can cook it for a while, but I've also mixed the ingredients right in a can of tomato sauce and it was decent.  Sometimes, like tonight, I'll leave out the paste because I don't have any.
15 oz tomato sauce
6 oz tomato paste (going off memory - hope the measurements are right)
basil
marjoram
oregano
crushed red peppers
2 cloves garlic

Well - off to make pizza now!

Thanks for posted about whole wheat. I try very hard to only eat whole grains/ whole wheat. I'm looking forward to trying this since it looks like I have everything to make it in house.

Glad it'll work for you Michele! I also vary the sauce by sometimes making a white sauce and other times use BBQ sauce (with chicken - mmmm). We're waiting for ours to come out of the oven now. :-)

Just read yours again, after making mine. Still comparing the two! I don't know why mine sometimes rises and sometimes doesn't... my recipe has all of the ingredients in the bowl - add hot water - stir - mash out onto pan. Maybe I am supposed to be adding the water and then stir and wait? But won't it all flatten out and make crackery pizza if I do that? Then again I have gotten crackery pizza crust a few times! LOL!
